Helado Negro – More

Roberto Carlos Lange returns as Helado Negro with “More,” the lead single from his upcoming EP “The Last Sound on Earth.” It’s his first release for Big Dada, landing November 7th with five tracks that wrestle with mortality and modern overwhelm.

Lange wrote these songs while watching Michael Snow’s experimental film “Wavelength” in chunks, letting each viewing carve out different emotions. The process shows in “More”, electronics pile up like anxious thoughts, with echo and distortion giving his voice that dazed, shell-shocked quality. It captures the weird isolation of being ultra-connected but feeling more alone than ever.

The track deals with “the day-to-day push and pull that can lead to being overwhelmed with more of everything.” Lange’s production mirrors this — layers of sound that feel both comforting and suffocating. His bilingual approach (English and Spanish) adds another dimension, reflecting his South Florida roots and Ecuadorian heritage.

Director Annapurna Kumar’s lyric video uses origami hearts as a metaphor for emotional processing. Simple folding motions free the mind to work through complex feelings — a perfect visual for Lange’s approach to making sense of chaos through music.

The EP started with a question: what will the last sound I hear before I die be? Heavy stuff, but Lange finds his answer in love and movement. Despite the doom, he’s figured out how to dance to grief.
